HIGHLIGHT on Art Exhibition: The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta is organizing a unique exhibition entitled Vico Magistretti. A Traveling Archive in the multifunctional room of the Institute. As tribute to a legendary architect and designer.
The Institute recreates the studio of Vico Magistretti in Milan. This room, overlooking one of Milan’s piazzas, is the space in which Magistretti worked during his entire career.
The walls are covered by pin boards full of samples of his favorite paper materials, sketches drawn on newspaper pages, drawings made for him by his grandchildren, letters, correspondence with friends and colleagues, and family photographs. Thanks to this layout, the exhibition follows a double path, one towards creativity, and the other one towards the origin and creation of the products. In addition, Vico Magistretti.
A Traveling Archive takes an in-depth look at the work of the great Milanese architect and designer, who, during his lifetime, received some of the most important awards in the field of design, including the Compasso d’Oro (three times) and the First Prize of the Triennale of Milan. The exhibition highlights Magistretti’s creativity and his work with some of the most prominent Italian design companies (Artemide, De Padova, Flou, Oluce, Schiffini, Cassina), shown through sketches, pictures, notes, letters and faxes, as well as a selection of his most important creations, including the Eclisse, Dalù and Atollo lamps, the Maralunga couch, the Nuvola Rossa bookcase and Cinqueterre kitchen.
This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Studio Museo Vico Magistretti, Atelier Cosmas Gozali, Budi Pradono Architects, Arch. Luigi Cipolla, Indonesian Contemporary Art and Design, Ambiente and Moie and sponsored by Evoluzione Tyres and Zurich Insurance Indonesia and supported by Ambiente and Moie, ICAD, SACMI, Etihad, APlus, Diversa San Marco, Dana Paint, Magran, Mamma Rosy, Lucaffè, Aqua Danone, and LokaKarya.
